Abilene Education Foundation's Young Masters Juried Art Exhibition
Abilene Education Foundation (AEF) is proud to present the sixth annual exhibition of the AEF Young Masters Juried Art Exhibition, which will run from April 9 – May 24 at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature (NCCIL).
The juried art competition offers every Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art students in Abilene ISD an opportunity to have artwork selected for a museum exhibition and to compete for valuable college scholarships. The exhibition is a collaborative effort by AEF, Abilene ISD and the NCCIL and will feature 54 works of art.
“The goals of the exhibition are to celebrate young master artists and their dedicated teachers for demonstrating excellence in artistic expression and education and to recognize outstanding artistic expression with a quality museum exhibition,” said Jean McMillon, Executive Director of AEF.
The exhibition is open to the public.

This June the NCCIL will celebrate the arrival of Walter Wick: Games, Gizmos & Toys in the Attic, also the centerpiece of this year's Children's Art and Literacy Festival. Best known for his search-and-find photographs, Wick is the author, creator, and photographer of the Can You See What I See? Series, and is also the co-creator and photographer of the I Spy books. Wick captivating bookWalter Wick's Optical Tricks was the basis for this years spring art contest.
The NCCIL's Op Art contest challenged the imagination, curiosity, willingness to think outside the box while celebrating the magic of optical illusions created in Wick's books. Op art, also known as optical art, is a style of visual art that makes use of optical illusions. The children learned about optical illusions before putting their knowledge on paper. This contest was open to all elementary, middle and high school students, and submissions for art created using different types of illusions ranged from the Blivet, Cafe Wall, Herring, Fraser Spiral to the Ebbinghaus illusion. While some used motion or color and shadow to bring about their optical illusion the others made use of our cognitive sense.
The NCCIL is appreciative of our fabulous Judges, Bird Thomas, Curator, all things educational and fun at Center for Contemporary Arts and Nellie Doneva, Photojournalist at the Abilene Reporter News for their enthusiasm and hard work.

Art In The Classroom: Learn how to incorporate art in everyday lesson plans. Teachers will leave with lesson plans and supplies. Cost includes cost of art supplies and lesson plans.
