"Mandala"
A mandala is a circular design that, in Sanskrit, means “healing circle” or “healthy universe.”
Based on Tibet: Through The Red Box
Materials:
Paper plates or large circles of construction paper, crayons or markers
Instructions:
A mandala is a radial symmetric design. This means that the design begins in the middle and goes out in four directions. Each side of the circle has the same design so that when you look at the circle it has the same design on the top and bottom and the right and left. Begin by drawing a small circle or square in the middle of the paper plate. Add another shape around your first shape. Continue adding designs to your circle. You may add lines coming from the middle shape pointing to the top, bottom, and each side. You may draw a shape at the end of the line. You may draw a different shape at the edge of the paper at the top, bottom, left and right. Continue adding shapes and lines. Remember whatever shape or line you draw you must draw it again 3 times: top, bottom, right and left. Here’s to a healthy universe!
